The Green Monkey program was established to bring attention to the many green practices and programs currently in place at Knoxville Zoo. This program also provides us the opportunity to share conservation messaging and teach zoo visitors how to incorporate green practices into everyday life.

Our Green Monkey education efforts will begin at the zoo through the use of graphics and signage. We will call attention to opportunities for our guests to take an active and immediate role in conservation, we will highlight our own conservation programs, and we will teach our guests how to be environmentally conscious consumers. The zoo's education department will develop curriculums designed to run in conjunction with current education programs that take place both on and off zoo grounds emphasizing conservation and sustainability in day-to-day living.

After establishing the brand within the zoo, the Green Monkey will take his show on the road. The Green Monkey will begin a community-wide movement partnering with Knoxville area businesses and schools to promote conservation and awareness of earth-friendly practices. The Green Monkey will highlight those businesses that make significant efforts to lessen the environmental impact of their operations. As a result, businesses will benefit from increased foot traffic on the part of aware consumers, and we will all benefit from a cleaner and healthier environment.
